On the eighteenth anniversary of the assassination of the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat the Hamas Movement stressed in a press release issued Friday that his assassination is a Palestinian national issue.
Recalling Arafat’s stance towards extracting the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights Hamas looked back on the Israeli occupation’s siege on and assassination of him a crime that is part of the Israeli occupation’s attacks against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank and blockaded Gaza Strip since 2007.
Such violations reiterate the necessity to promote national unity and endorse a unified resistance strategy against the Israeli occupation’s aggressive schemes against the Palestinian land people and holy places the Movement said.
Hamas also renewed its strong support to “the valiant Palestinian freedom fighters who vowed to stand against the Israeli occupation’s crimes until liberation and return.”
Earlier on Thursday Palestinians marked the 18th anniversary of the death of Yasser Arafat the first president of Palestine and chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) with a rally and march through the streets of Ramallah that ended at the site of his grave.
West Bank schools dedicated time to talking about the biography of the late president and his role in reviving the Palestinian cause at the international level.
In the besieged Gaza Strip hundreds of Palestinians attended a central rally at the Yasser Arafat Square in al-Rimal neighborhood west of Gaza.
