Israeli warplanes targeted the Gaza Strip with multiple missiles hitting a resistance site at dawn Friday.
At least 10 missiles were fired at the Al-Qassam Brigades’ site at the entrance to the Maghazi refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip local sources said.
The attack caused no casualties but several neighboring houses were damaged. Electricity went out in the Maghazi camp following the bombing.
Photos shared on social media showed fireballs and smoke in Gaza following the airstrikes.
An Israeli army statement said “airstrikes targeted underground Hamas facility in central (Gaza) Strip in retaliation for four rockets lobbed toward Israel earlier Thursday.”
The retaliatory attack came after four rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip toward Israel on Thursday the Israeli statement claimed.
One rocket was intercepted by the Iron Dome air defense system over a border town and the other three fell short in the Strip according to the Israeli army.
There were no reports of injuries or damage following the rocket attacks.
For its part the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades announced that its ground-based anti-aircraft repelled the “Zionist hostile air force” which at dawn Friday targeted the “13th Brigade” site at the entrance to the Maghazi camp with a big number of bombs.
“We will remain the spearhead of defending our people and land and confronting the brutal aggression in every part of Palestine” the Brigades said.
Spokesman for Hamas Movement Hazem Qassem considered “the barbaric Zionist bombing of the Gaza Strip as a blatant aggression on our people.”
“This Zionist terrorism will not stop our people’s escalating revolution throughout Palestine” he added.
