The Israeli authorities forced on Thursday the Palestinian Ibrahim Hamed to self-demolish his house in Sur Baher southeast of Occupied Jerusalem.
Like many other Palestinian families in Jerusalem Hamed opted to tear down his own 170-sq home which houses his wife and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter rather than have the (Israeli) Jerusalem Municipality do it on their behalf in order to avoid the high cost of the demolition which can go up to tens of thousands of shekels.
Israeli forces routinely carry out demolitions of Palestinian homes in Occupied Jerusalem under different pretexts with one of the main ones being “building without a permit.” At least one-third of all Palestinian homes in Jerusalem lack a building permit placing some 100000 Palestinians at risk of forced displacement.
