IOA bans Palestinian official from al-Aqsa Mosque

Sunday 11-September-2022

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has banned the deputy director of the Jerusalem Waqf Department from entering al-Aqsa Mosque compound for six months.

Last Thursday Israeli police officers broke into Sheikh Najeh Bakirat’s house in Sur Baher town in Occupied Jerusalem. But he was not at home.

He was later summoned to Moskobiya investigation center where he was informed that his son’s travel ban has been renewed.

He was also summoned to the Qishla investigation center in Bab Al-Khalil in the Old City on Sunday where he was informed of being denied access to al-Aqsa Mosque for six months.

Sheikh Bakirat condemned the order as “arbitrary and unjust” and said it was not the first time the police exiled him from the holy city.

He considered the Israeli order as a failed attempt to empty al-Aqsa Mosque of activists and disrupt the work of the Waqf department in Occupied Jerusalem.

Sheikh Bakirat was banned from entering the al-Aqsa Mosque for 26 times since 2001 and detained 34 times since 1981.
