Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails started on Monday their protest steps which may last for a maximum of two weeks the Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs Authority said in a statement issued Sunday evening.
The prisoners will first refuse their meals or any food offered by the Israeli Prison Services (IPS) as a prelude to declare an open-ended mass hunger strike.
The prisoners would also refuse to leave their cells for routine security checks as a step of disobedience against the IPS repressive measures.
Earlier last week the Palestinian captive movement declared the prisoners’ intention to resume their protest steps after the IPS had failed to fulfill its previous promise to ease severe restrictions that were imposed in the aftermath of the Gilboa prison break last year.
The restrictions include among other things solitary confinement and the frequent transfer of dozens of inmates to other prisons.
The prisoners called on the Palestinian people to support them in their struggle against the restrictions imposed by the IPS.
