The Palestinian prisoner Khalil Awawda suffers a very serious health deterioration after 152 days on hunger strike medical sources revealed Thursday.
The Israeli prison medical committee stated that Awawda’s health condition has seriously declined amid fears that he may lose consciousness at any moment.
In a letter to the Israeli health and army ministers the committee has called for Awawda’s urgent transfer to a civilian hospital as he faces a possible a brain and nervous system disorder.
Doctors Without Borders also confirmed the Israeli reports of his serious health decline stressing the urgent need for his transfer to a civilian hospital before it is too late
Khalil Awawda’s release was one of the conditions set by the Islamic Jihad Movement to reach a ceasefire deal with Israel under Egyptian mediation.
Awawda a father of four was arrested more than once most recently was in 2021 where he was held in administrative detention without charge or trial.
Awawda suffers many health problems including persistent headache joint pains emaciation extreme fatigue irregular heartbeats and breathing and frequent vomiting of blood.
Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge alleging that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit and the evidence on which it is based is not disclosed.
