Gaza municipality signs twinning agreements with European cities

The Gaza municipality president Yahya Sarraj signed several twinning agreements with a number of European cities and participated in an international conference on municipalities during his ongoing foreign tour.

Hosni Muhanna the municipality spokesman told Quds Press on Saturday: “This tour aims to sign more twinning agreements with European cities with the aim of strengthening Gaza Municipality’s relations with countries and international institutions and activating the old twinning agreements.”

“Sarraj recently began a foreign tour including the city of Barcelona in Spain as well as the city of Tromso in Norway before heading to Turkey at the head of a delegation of the mayors of the Gaza Strip to participate in the Sixth General Assembly of the Union of Turkish World Municipalities” Muhanna explained.

The Mayor of Gaza met with several important figures and discussed with them ways of cooperating jointly with the municipalities of the Gaza Strip. He had an important speech in the sessions of the Conference attended by dozens of mayors around the world the spokesman elaborated.

Muhanna explained that “after the conclusion of the work of the Conference the Mayor went to Romania as part of efforts to strengthen external relations between Gaza and various cities in the world and to mobilize support for the Palestinian issue.”

Gaza is one of the largest and oldest Palestinian municipalities founded during the Ottoman era in the 19th century and played an important role in Palestinian life.
