Hamas: We will not allow settlers to defile Aqsa Mosque

Monday 23-May-2022

The Hamas Movement has affirmed that it will never allow Jewish settlers to desecrate the Aqsa Mosque and perform Talmudic prayers in its courtyards regardless of the cost stressing that the holy site belongs exclusively to the Muslim nation.

In a statement on Sunday Hamas condemned the Israeli magistrate court’s decision to allow Jewish settlers to practice their Talmudic rituals during their provocative tours of the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards describing the verdict as “playing with fire” and “overstepping the red lines.”

Hamas held the Israeli occupation government fully responsible for the repercussions of such “serious escalation” affirming that there would be more Palestinian resistance to confront this decision.

“Every inch of the Aqsa Mosque belongs solely to the Muslims and no one has sovereignty over it except the Palestinian people” the Movement underlined.

“The occupation its settlers and extremist groups will not succeed in imposing a new fait accompli on the blessed land [of the Aqsa Mosque] by force and terrorism” it emphasized further adding that “the Palestinian people in Jerusalem and across the occupied territories will strongly and bravely confront such plots and will do whatever it takes to foil them.”

The Israeli magistrate court in Occupied Jerusalem ruled on Sunday in favor of Jewish settlers who had already been banned from the Old City for several days for performing Jewish prayers at the Aqsa Mosque and rejected a police confirmation that such actions disrupted officers’ duties and threatened public order.

The court considered the settlers’ actions at the Islamic holy site “does not raise worry of harm befalling national security public safety or individual security.”

The ruling has taken place one week before far-right settler groups are due to hold an annual flag march through the Old City of Jerusalem marking its capture by the occupation state in the 1967 war.
