Israeli navy forces have committed 97 violations of Palestinian fishermen’s rights in the Gaza Strip since the beginning of 2022 a Palestinian rights center said on Monday.
In a statement the Al-Mezan Center for Human Rights said that the most recent violations were the arrest of three fishermen from the Gaza Sea earlier on Monday morning.
The Center confirmed that it had documented “97 Israeli violations of the rights of Palestinian fishermen in the Sea of Gaza since the beginning of 2022”.
The Israeli navy arrested 17 fishermen including 3 children injured 9 fishermen including 3 children and seized 5 fishing boats since the start of this year it elaborated.
The Israeli navy gunboats constantly open machinegun fire at the Palestinian fishermen’s boats injuring and arresting a number of them at the pretext of crossing the fishing zone.
The statement underlined that the occupation forces continue to prohibit the entry into Gaza of equipment necessary for the fishing profession as part of their tight blockade of the Strip.
It charged that Israel’s continued violations against Palestinian fishermen were part of its systematic policy of destroying the fishing sector as part of its plan to destroy the Palestinian economy in Gaza.
