An Israeli far-right armed militia was set up to target Palestinians in Negev south of Israel (1948 Occupied Palestine) Hebrew media sources revealed on Saturday.
Holding the name of the Israeli soldier killed along Gaza borders Barel Hadaria Shmueli the armed gang was established with Israeli police support to confront Palestinians’ uprising in the Negev.
“Former police officer Almog Cohen was set to sign over one hundred volunteers to what he envisioned as an armed citizen brigade but marred by accusations of racism and funding issues” Haaretz Hebrew newspaper said.
“The armed civilian unit of rangers was set up to save the Negev from problematic absence of personal security amid heightened Jewish-Arab tensions in Israel’s south” the paper claimed.
According to the sources “the initiative was initially supported by the police and the Negev municipality.”
