More than half of Palestinian prisoners held in Ofer contract COVID-19

Thursday 3-February-2022

More than half of the Palestinian prisoners held in the Israeli Ofer prison were infected by COVID-19 the Palestinian prisoners Society (PPS) revealed Thursday.

The PPS charged that the Israeli prison administration has started using the epidemic as a tool of abuse and repression against the prisoners.

The prison administration took advantage of the epidemic to impose more restrictions on the prisoners who already suffer difficult detention conditions the PPS added.

The rights group further underlined that the Israeli administration imposes a total blackout on the number and health situation of the infected prisoners.

The Israeli occupation authorities detain about 4650 Palestinians including 34 women 160 minors and 500 administrative detainees.
