Israel displaces Jerusalemite family including 9 children

Monday 3-January-2022

As the New Year’s celebrations continued to be held around the world Israel continues to practice its ethnic cleaning policy against Palestinians in Occupied Jerusalem.

The Dabash family is the last but not the least victim of the Israeli occupation authority’s displacement policy.

The 11-member family including nine children became homeless after being forced to self-demolish their home in Sur Baher town southeast of the holy city.

Ali Dabash the house’s owner affirmed on Sunday that he received in November 2021 a notice from the Israeli municipal authorities ordering him to self-demolish his family house.

Dabash was forced to carry out the measure five days ago to avoid paying the demolition expenses and fines.

He further pointed out that he tried to appeal against the demolition order. However it was in vain.

Dabash was only given 21 days to self-demolish his 50 sqm house.

His wife Bushra said that they are looking for a flat for rent to protect their nine children from the very cold weather.

“We were forced to demolish our family house by ourselves to avoid paying 100000 shekels in demolition expenses” she added pointing out that they further have to pay a fine of 25000 shekels before 2024.

Last week the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) released a new report documenting the Israeli human rights violations over the two weeks (7 – 20 December 2021).

According to the report 15 Palestinian-owned homes were demolished in the occupied West Bank during just two weeks.

OCHA further said that the number of Palestinian homes and structures demolished or seized and people displaced in 2021 represents an increase of 21 and 28 percent respectively compared with the equivalent figures in 2020.
