Gaza resistance fires anti-aircraft missiles at Israeli helicopters

Sunday 2-January-2022

In a rare incident the Palestinian resistance targeted Israeli military helicopters with shoulder-launched anti-aircraft missiles over the Gaza Strip early Sunday morning during airstrikes carried out by the Israeli occupation army.

A source from the Palestinian resistance told Quds Press on condition of anonymity that an air defense unit affiliated with a resistance faction fired two SAM-7 anti-aircraft missiles towards one of the raiding helicopters over the west of Gaza City.

He added that the use of such missiles forced all the warplanes overflying Gaza to leave its airspace after they bombed the Qadisiyah site (resistance post) in Khan Yunis south of Gaza.

He pointed out that this was one of the few times the resistance used this type of Russian-made anti-aircraft weapons against Israeli warplanes adding that heavy machine guns are usually used to ward off aerial attacks.

The SAM-7 missile also known as 9K32 Strela-2 is a Russian-made shoulder-launched surface-to-air missile. They are relatively outdated having been first made in the 1960s but remain in use today.

After midnight on Sunday the Israeli occupation army carried out aerial and artillery attacks on two Palestinian resistance sites in different areas of the Gaza Strip. No one was reportedly hurt.
