Turkish president Recep Erdogan has affirmed that the way to establish lasting stability and peace in the region is to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital.
Speaking at the opening session of the 16th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Istanbul Erdogan said that “defending Jerusalem means defending humanity and protecting it is protecting rights law peace justice and civilization.”
“Jerusalem is not just the cause of a group of brave Muslims but it is the common cause of the entire Islamic world” the Turkish president said on Friday.
“It is unfair and unscrupulous to make the Palestinians pay the price for the genocide against the Jews in Europe during World War II” he said adding that “as descendants of ancestors who ruled Jerusalem justly for 400 years we do not want to see blood tears and oppression in Palestine.”
“We resolutely maintain our position on the status of east Jerusalem and the sanctity of the Aqsa Mosque” he underlined.
President Erdogan highlighted that “Jerusalem is a blessed city and a trust from the Prophet Muhammad may Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him to his nation.”
