Dozens rallies outside Damon to demand release of pregnant detainee

Monday 30-August-2021

Dozens of activists rallied on Sunday evening outside the Israeli prison of Damon in Haifa to demand the release of nine months pregnant prisoner Anhar ad-Deek from the West Bank village of Kafr Ni’ma in Ramallah.

The participants mostly women chanted slogans and carried placards demanding her release and expressing solidarity with her.

Speakers during the sit-in urged human rights groups to urgently intervene to pressure the Israeli authorities to release the prisoner who is expected to give birth to her baby any moment.

They stressed the need for ad-Deek to have the right to give birth to her newborn among her family members and in a safe and healthy environment away from Israeli constrains and jailers.

Last April the Israeli occupation forces kidnaped ad-Deek after extremist Jewish settlers living in an illegal outpost assaulted her in an area near the village. They claimed she was intending to carry out a stabbing attack.

According to the Palestinian Prisoner Society ad-Deek is one of 11 Palestinian mothers imprisoned in Israeli jails where there are a total of 40 female prisoners. The majority are held in Damon prison under harsh and abusive conditions.
