Sam Rose director of UNRWA affairs in Gaza has said that the lack of raw materials as a result of Israel’s closure of crossings with the Gaza Strip obstructs the reconstruction process which also needs funds.
Rose affirmed that a special appeal had been launched by UNRWA in late June in order to obtain funds necessary to reconstruct Gaza and help it recover from the effects of the war.
He said that the refugee agency started its own damage assessments in Gaza following the international “rapid damage and needs assessment” that was launched during a donor meeting at the time.
The UN official asserted the agency’s need for $160 million to reconstruct homes for Gaza refugee families.
