Israeli gov’t pledges to continue settlement expansion

Sunday 4-July-2021

A Hebrew newspaper on Sunday revealed that the Israeli government agreed during a recent meeting with leaders of Jewish settlements to retain and increase settlement construction in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

According to Israel Hayom interior minister Ayelet Shaked met last week with members of the Yesha council the umbrella organization of Jewish settlements in the West Bank and Jerusalem and conveyed her government’s pledge to maintain in place the status quo on settlement construction and expansion as it was under the previous government.

Shaked also affirmed that the government would convene the higher zoning committee of the Israeli army’s civil administration every three months to approve a new construction project.

During the meeting Yesha council chairman David Alhayani thanked Shaked and expressed his trust in her and the new government. “I trust you and really hope this will be a good government for the settlement movement. I wish you and all your ministry staff success.”
