Gaza plunged into darkness again

Friday 1-February-2008

GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian electricity company in Gaza announced on Friday that electricity supply to parts of Gaza city will be interrupted due to a “technical fault” on one of the high tension lines supplying Gaza with electricity from Israel.

The Israeli company which supplies the electricity informed the Palestinian electricity company that it has not been able to repair the cable because of the prevailing weather conditions despite the fact that the fault occurred three days ago. The interrupted line supplies Gaza with 10-13 Mega Watt.

The Palestinian electricity company which already suffers shortage of fuel supplies to operate its own generators had to resort to longer hours of electricity cuts as the available power had to be shared between different parts of the city in turns.

Jamal Al-Dardasawis the public relations officer at the Palestinian electricity company said that he was surprised that the Israeli company which has huge technical and logistic resources at its disposal is taking such a long time to restore the supply while his company with its limited resources usually repairs electricity networks destroyed by IOF during incursions in less than 24 hours.
