GAZA (PIC)– The Hamas Movement on Wednesday lashed out at statement of PA chief Mahmoud Abbas on his arrival to Cairo in which he said that Hamas was an “illegitimate” movement and that running crossings was of his sole authority.
Fawzi Barhoum a Hamas spokesman in Gaza said in a press release that Abbas’s description of Hamas as “illegitimate” and his insistence on the Israeli plan concerning the crossings reflected his intention to abort the Cairo meetings.
Abbas had also said that any dialogue with Hamas would be of no use unless it retracts its “coup against legitimacy”.
A Hamas delegation from the Gaza Strip left for Cairo on Wednesday morning in response to an official invitation for talks on Gaza crossings especially the Rafah border terminal.
MP Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar who is heading the delegation told reporters in a terse statement that the visit was not only meant to tackle the issue of crossings but rather would be an opportunity to discuss all pending questions.
Barhoum said that the delegation would join a Hamas delegation led by political bureau chairman Khaled Mishaal.
He added that Hamas does not object to meeting with the Fatah and PA presidency delegation.
