An Israeli court in Haifa on Monday extended for the third consecutive time the detention of Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib deputy head of the northern branch of the Islamic Movement in Israel on allegations of incitement and being affiliated with a banned group.
The court verdict was issued in response to the Israel prosecutor’s request to extend Sheikh Khatib’s detention for five days.
Sheikh Khatib was kidnaped from his home in the northern Arab town of Kafr Kana on May 14 as Jewish extremists were rampaging and attacking Palestinians and their property through Arab cities.
Dozens of Palestinians rallied outside the entrance of the Haifa magistrate court to protest his arbitrary detention which they described as politically motivated.
