Al-Jalaa tower owner submits complaint with ICC

Saturday 22-May-2021

The owner of the al-Jalaa tower which was destroyed by the Israeli occupation forces in Gaza and used to house the offices of international media organizations decided on Saturday to file a complaint with the International Criminal Court (ICC) confirming that there was no military target in the building.

The tower which consisted of 13 floors housed the offices of the Associated Press and the Qatari Al-Jazeera network as well as other offices and residential apartments.

The bombing of the building promoted international criticism and demands to ensure the protection of the media. For its part the Associated Press called for an independent investigation into the bombing of the building.

According to a complaint by the owner of the tower Jawad Mahdi the attack on al-Jalaa tower on May 15 was a war crime.

Lawyer Gilles Duffer said in a statement “We often hear that this tower may have been destroyed due to the presence of military equipment or an armed resistance team but this is something we completely deny after we studied the case.”

Duffer told AFP outside the ICC building where about ten demonstrators gathered in solidarity with the Palestinians that Israel was unable to prove the presence of any military objective for the attack.
