Israeli police brutally attack peaceful rally in Sheikh Jarrah

Monday 10-May-2021

The Israeli occupation police again cracked down on protesters rallying on Sunday evening against the Israeli plan to expel Palestinian families from the east Jerusalem neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah.

Mounted and foot police troops launched a brutal lathi-charge against the participants in the Sheikh Jarrah sit-in and prevented journalists from covering the events.

The Palestinian Red Crescent said at least 17 people including one paramedic were wounded during Sunday’s peaceful demonstrations in Sheikh Jarrah and in the Old City’s Bab al-Amud adding that four of the wounded were hospitalized.

A Red Crescent ambulance was reportedly attacked with rubber bullets and stun grenades during the events.

Tensions have escalated in Jerusalem the West Bank and Gaza throughout the Muslim holy month of Ramadan amid growing international anger over Israeli intents to expel Palestinian families from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah to make way for Jewish settlers.

At least 90 Palestinians were wounded on Saturday during an Israeli police crackdown on protesters outside the Old City of Jerusalem while another 200 Palestinians were injured on Friday when police forces stormed the Aqsa Mosque.
