Israeli gunboats fire at Palestinian fishing boats

Israeli gunboats attacked Palestinian fishermen’s boats and opened water cannons at them off the coast of Gaza City and Khan Yunis on Sunday.

Local sources said that the Israeli gunboats opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats during their presence within six nautical miles off the shore in the Sudaniya area northwest of Gaza City.

The Israeli naval forces also targeted the fishermen with water cannons which caused serious damage to at least one fishing boat.

The gunboats also attacked Palestinian fishermen’s boats during their presence within six nautical miles off the shore of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza Strip with machinegun fire and water cannons. No injuries were reported yet the fishermen had to return ashore.

Israeli gunboats deliberately attack Palestinian fishermen almost every day in the Gaza sea and prevent them from working.

Israeli navy gunboats opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza City on Tuesday morning.

Fishing committees in Gaza reported that the gunboats fired projectiles and opened machineguns at fishermen off the Sundaniya coast to the north west of Gaza City while trying to collect their fishing nets.

They added that three fishing boats went to bring back their nets when they were attacked two nautical miles off the coast.

Israeli gunboats have been shooting at Palestinian fishing boats to block their work for almost a week now.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats roaming the sea off Gaza shores opened fire at Palestinian fishing boats on Monday morning at the pretext of fishing beyond the allowed limit.

Walla Hebrew website site claimed that the gunboats only fired warning shots and did not cause any casualties or material damage.

It said that the Israeli navy fired six times at Palestinian fishermen since the truce went into effect two weeks ago to warn them not to exceed the limit of six nautical miles.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza Strip at dawn Thursday with no casualties reported.

Meanwhile an Israeli army spokesman said that shooting from Gaza shores hit one of the Israeli naval gunboats on Wednesday.

The spokesman said that Palestinian resistance fighters opened fire at the navy gunboats while chasing Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of southern Gaza.

He said that one of the gunboats suffered damages adding that the navy forces responded by firing at the source of fire.

Palestinian sources said that four Palestinian fishermen were moderately wounded in the gunboats’ shooting at their fishing boats adding that they were hospitalized in Rafah.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of northern Gaza Strip on Monday morning.

Eyewitnesses said that the shooting forced the fishermen to abandon their ships and go back to land. No casualties were reported.

Israeli navy targets Palestinian fishing boats off the coasts of Gaza Strip on daily basis and deprive them of their right to fish outside a restricted area of three nautical miles.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza Strip on Tuesday night.

Nizar Ayyash the head of the syndicate of fishermen told the PIC reporter that the navy’s shooting has turned into a daily practice targeting fishing boats approaching the six nautical miles limit.

He charged that despite the allowed area yet the Israeli navy fires at any fishing boat approaching five and a half nautical miles and chases away fishermen.

Ayyash pointed out that Israel re-allowed fishing at that area after end of the fishing season starting early April to the end of May.

Fishermen have thus lost their busy working season and returned to fishing small quantities he concluded.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza Strip at dawn Saturday forcing fishermen to retreat to the shore.

Sources in the marine police told the PIC reporter that the gunboats fired one shell then opened heavy machinegun fire at the fishing boats off the Sudaniya area to the northwest of Gaza city.

They said that the fishermen were forced to retreat to areas nearer to the shore without any casualties or damage to boats being sustained.

Israeli gunboats daily target Palestinian fishermen and force them to fish within a three nautical miles radius that was later reduced to only one nautical mile while the calm agreement of last November stipulated among other articles that fishermen could fish at a distance of six nautical miles off the shores of Gaza.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats opened machinegun fire at Palestinian boats off the coasts of Gaza Strip at dawn Wednesday.

Sources in the marine police told the PIC reporter that the Israeli gunboats opened heavy fire at the fishing boats working off the Sudaniya beach north west of Gaza city.

They said that the fishermen were forced to retreat to a distance of only one nautical mile from the beach.

The sources that no casualties or material damage in the ships were reported adding that the fishermen returned to the beach after the attack.

Israeli navy daily targets Palestinian fishermen in their work after it reduced the distance allowed for fishing from six to three nautical miles.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats fired at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Sudaniya to the north west of Gaza city on Friday.

Palestinian fishermen syndicate sources told the PIC reporter that the gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at the boats forcing fishermen on board to abandon them. They said that no casualties were suffered.

The Israeli navy arrested four fishermen from one family while fishing off the coasts of Gaza on Wednesday.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza city on Wednesday morning local sources said.

They told Quds Press that the gunboats at sea fired at the fishing boats which were off the Shati refugee camp shore.

The sources said that the fishermen were forced to abandon their boats and return to the beach adding that no casualties or damages were reported.

Israeli navy prohibits Palestinian fishing more than three nautical miles off the coast of the enclave despite the Oslo agreement between Israel and the PLC that allows fishing 20 nautical miles off the coast.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats fired at Palestinian fishing boats off the coasts of the Gaza Strip and chased them to the beach on Sunday evening local sources reported.

Security sources told the PIC reporter that the Israeli gunboats opened their machineguns at the Palestinian boats while fishing in the area allowed for them but noted that no casualties were reported.

Israeli reconnaissance planes did not stop flying over the coastal enclave while warplanes and army choppers appear every now and then in the skies.

RAFAH (PIC)– Israeli gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the southern Gaza Strip coast of Rafah on Wednesday night press sources reported.

The sources said that the gunboats repeatedly targeted the fishing boats at a close distance forcing fishermen to return to the beach fearing for their lives.

Israeli navy boats routinely chase and harass Palestinian fishermen along the shoreline of the Strip one of whom was killed last Friday when his boat capsized while trying to escape the Israeli navy chase off Rafah coast.

Meanwhile Israeli warplanes were seen increasing their flights over the Strip Palestinian security sources reported warning that they might be preparing for attacking certain targets.

The sources told the PIC that reconnaissance planes army choppers and other types of warplanes were intensifying their over flights on Wednesday evening.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli navy gunboats attacked Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of northern Gaza Strip on Saturday but no casualties were reported.

A security source and fishermen said that an Israeli gunboat fired at three fishing boats off the Sudaniya area inflicting material damage on them.

They added that other fishing boats retreated from the scene.

Around 3500 Palestinians in the Strip work in fishing and are routinely harassed by Israeli gunboats.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats on Sunday shelled a number of Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Beit Lahia to the north of the Gaza Strip using heavy machineguns and sonic bombs locals reported.

They said that the gunboats which were roaming the sea off the Palestinian beaches damaged a number of those fishing boats but no casualties were reported.

The Israeli shelling however panicked Palestinian citizens who were at the beach at the time the sources said adding that the systematic Israeli shelling and firing at Palestinian fishermen had greatly affected their work for years.

They said that fishermen’s lives were at constant risk other than their detention and the destruction of their boats.

In the West Bank the Israeli occupation forces announced the arrest of four Palestinians with knives in their possession on Sunday.

The IOF command said that one of them was a Palestinian teenage girl who was held near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Al-Khalil. It identified the girl as Wurud Abu Sneine adding that she was detained after the soldiers found a knife in her bag.

Three other young men were detained in Ramallah district.

GAZA (PIC)– Israeli gunboats on Wednesday opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fishing boats off the coasts of Gaza city causing material damage but no casualties were reported.

Eyewitnesses said that a number of fishermen who were at sea at time of the incident were forced to head to the shore because of the intensified shooting.

The Israeli occupation authority prohibits Palestinian fishing at a distance beyond 3 nautical miles while before the Gaza siege the fishermen were allowed to fish as far as 20 nautical miles.

In another development in Gaza a Palestinian young woman in her twenties died on Wednesday because of severe burns in the lower part of her body which she suffered over the past week and could not travel abroad for treatment because of the Israeli siege medical sources reported.

They added that with the death of Abir Al-Agha the number of siege victims thus rose to 313.
