Two Palestinian fishermen wounded in Israeli gunboat shooting

Israeli navy gunboats fired at Palestinian fishermen while fishing off the northern Gaza Strip shores on Friday and wounded two of them.

The fishermen committee identified the two fishermen as Adham Abu Qassem and Mohammed al-Awoor adding that they were wounded to the west of Beit Lahia and were taken to hospital for treatment.

It said that the Israeli gunboats opened heavy machinegun fire at the fishing boats causing the injuries and severely damaging the fishing boats.

The Israeli gunboats regularly target Palestinian fishing boats shooting live bullets and opening water cannons at them. Fishermen are sometimes also detained.

GAZA (PIC)– Two Palestinian fishermen suffered gunshots wounds at the hands of Israeli navy boats while fishing off the coast of northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday morning.

Dr. Ashraf al-Qidra the health ministry spokesman told the PIC reporter that the fishermen were transferred to the Shifa hospital describing their wounds as moderate.

The incident is the latest of a series of Israeli violations of the calm agreement in Gaza reached with Egyptian mediation last August.
