Palestinian security personnel decide to demonstrate starting Sunday

Friday 8-December-2006

TULKAREM — As the siege is beginning to break tens of security personnel decided to bring chaos and tension to the Palestinian street again by demonstrating and rioting in the streets to pressure the government on the issue of salaries.

According to Palestinian sources a number of security personnel met at the local park in Tulkarem and decided to escalate their action starting Saturday.

Those who attended the meeting resented the idea that the government has secured pledges to get the salaries of the education and health employees paid while the salaries of security personnel were not secured.

Security personnel have so far been paid more that 50% of their salaries and the government has promised to work hard to secure salaries for all government employees including security forces.

Acting Treasury Minister and Planning Minister Dr. Samir Abu Eishe stated that the security forces personnel have been paid 1.362 billion Israeli New Shekels of their salaries and the government still owes them 747 million Israeli New Shekels.
