IOF attacks activists planting olive trees north of al-Khalil

Monday 4-January-2021

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked on Monday participants in an event to plant olive trees on the lands threatened by appropriation located between the towns of Halhul and Sa`ir in al-Khalil.

The participants raised the Palestinian flag while planting olive trees in the lands of Jumjuma Mountain which the occupation and its settlers are trying to seize. They also chanted slogans calling for an end to occupation and to the settlement policy in all parts of Palestine.

The participants called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility in protecting the Palestinian people and their property.

The IOF soldiers fired stun grenades and tear gas canisters at the participants in the event.

Walid Assaf the head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission said that this event is part of an integrated program to protect the mountain and lands all over Palestine.

“We in the commission will pay the costs of reclaiming this area and we will work to open the streets to facilitate citizens’ access to their lands for farming and building” he added.

Assaf warned that suppressing the defenseless participants by IOF which provides protection to heavily armed settlers will not bring peace to the region but rather will increase tension.

He stressed that they will face the attacks of the IOF soldiers and settlers by all means to preserve the Palestinian lands.
