The Hamas Movement has strongly denounced the recent desecration of the Mar Elias Church and Monastery in Haifa by a horde of extremist Jewish settlers calling such practice as an attempt to Judaize it.
In a statement on Monday Hamas described the entry of settlers to the church for prayers as “serious aggression against the Palestinian people’s holy sites and heritage” and “part of the Israeli fascist measures that target their existence on their own land.”
Hamas appealed to the international community and human rights groups to take immediate action to stop Israeli violations against the Palestinian holy places and hold Israel accountable for its actions.
A few days ago a group of settlers prayed inside the church under police protection claiming there is a tomb belonging to a Jewish figure in its courtyard.
Israeli extremists have repeatedly targeted the Mar Elias Church and Monastery in an attempt to claim it as a Jewish site.
