AMMAN (PIC)– Mahmoud Abbas the PA chief has lashed out at the Palestinian national conference scheduled to be held in Damascus on 23/1/2008 describing it as “illegitimate”.
Abbas during a meeting with members of the Palestinian national council in the Jordanian capital a couple of days ago said that such conferences contradict what he called Palestinian legitimacy.
He said that those attending the Damascus conference which is held to declare insistence on national rights and on national unity only represent themselves.
Talal Naji the chairman of the preparatory committee for the conference and the PFLP-GC secretary general said that invitations would be extended to all Palestinian factions including Fatah which is headed by Abbas along with members of the PLO’s executive committee and chairmanship of the Palestinian national council.
Most of the Palestinian factions have already declared readiness to attend the conference but Fatah refused and denounced the conference and those organizing it.
