Senior Hamas and Fatah officials are slated to meet today September 22 in Turkey to discuss the efforts being made to execute the outcome of the factions’ meeting that was held concurrently in Ramallah and Beirut in early September.

In early September the secretaries general of the Palestinian factions held a meeting in Ramallah and Beirut chaired by president Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the mechanisms to face the dangers targeting the Palestinian cause most notably the US deal of the century the Israeli annexation plans and the wave of Arab normalization of ties with the occupation state.

In their final statement the conferees agreed on forming a committee of influential and trustworthy national figures whose mission is to develop within no more than five weeks a strategic vision to end the inter-Palestinian division and achieve political partnership.

They also agreed on forming a national committee to lead the comprehensive popular resistance against the Israeli occupation.

In a related context president Mahmoud Abbas asked his Turkish counterpart Recep Erdogan to support the current Palestinian efforts to achieve the national reconciliation and hold elections.

This came during a phone conversation between Abbas and Erdogan on Monday according to WAFA news agency.

Abbas also put the Turkish president in the picture of the talks and meetings taking place between the Palestinian factions especially Hamas and Fatah.
