Jordan on Thursday said it sent Israel a memo via diplomatic channels urging it to respect the Islamic sanctity of the Aqsa Mosque and halt all its provocative practices there.
In a diplomatic letter to Tel Aviv Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Israel as an occupying power should “respect the sanctity of the Aqsa Mosque (al-Haram al-Sharif) and end all provocations and violations there.”
Its spokesman Dhaifallah al-Fayez also condemned in a press release the continued Israeli violations against the Aqsa Mosque the most recent of which was when the Israeli occupation police allowed hundreds of Jewish extremists to storm the Mosque on Thursday.
Al-Fayez stressed that the Aqsa Mosque with its total area of 144 dunums is an Islamic holy site belonging exclusively to the Muslim nation adding that the Jerusalem Awqaf Department which reports to Jordan is the only institution responsible for administrating the Mosque’s affairs.
The spokesman called on the international community to assume its responsibility in this regard and pressure Israel to end its violations at the Aqsa Mosque.
