Wednesday 6-December-2006

Damascus- Heads of the Palestinian resistance factions have met with PA premier Ismail Haneyya in the Syrian capital Damascus on Tuesday and expressed their full support for his government’s political stands in addition to discussing with him a number of hot issues in the Palestinian arena.

Khaled Mishaal the head of Hamas’ political bureau stressed in a press conference after the meeting that Hamas and the other Palestinian resistance factions were adamant that breaking “the unjust siege should be made without paying any political price”.

“The blockade will ultimately be lifted and we shall Allah willing break it” affirmed Mishaal.

The Hamas’ supreme political leader asserted that his Movement will always rally behind the just demands and legal rights of the Palestinian people without ceding a bit of them.

“We (Palestinian factions) met to deliberate the current Palestinian stand and we came up with crucial results in this direction” Mishaal added.

He also pointed out that the Palestinian priority for the time being is to break the siege adding “A number of Arab regional and foreign states are indeed willing to break the unjust embargo”.

Moreover Mishaal underlined that inter-Palestinian dialogue on unity government must be in harmony with the national constants of the Palestinian people and away from American and Israeli pressures and influence if we indeed want to succeed in forming a national unity government.

The PA premier for his part hailed the supportive stand of the Palestinian factions to his government’s policies and national stands.

“I am very much comfortable as I indeed found a national and pure Palestinian stand expressed by our Palestinian brethren in the various factions and I felt that there is indeed a united front to confront the unjust siege and to protect the national venture of the Palestinian people” Haneyya remarked.

The premier furthermore affirmed that his government will not budge a single inch from the national constants and legal rights of the Palestinian people and will always safeguard the Palestinian national project without involving itself in “marginal” disputes.

He also highlighted the importance of keeping the line of communication open between Palestinians in the homeland and those living in diaspora being one people and of one noble and just question that is the Palestinian issue.

Talal Naji assistant secretary-general of the PFLP-GC hailed Haneyya and affirmed that the Hamas-led government is enjoying the full support of the Palestinian factions being transparently and democratically elected by the people.

He also affirmed that the Palestinian factions were backing Haneyya’s efforts in forming a national unity government based on national stands asserting “Hamas has indeed showed a great sense of nationalism as it advanced the national interests of the Palestinian people over its own interests”.

According to Naji the Palestinian factions championed the swift restructuring of the PLO based on new basis taking into consideration political variables in the Palestinian arena as stipulated in the Cairo understandings last year.
