Gaza mosques to open for Ramadan’s last Friday prayer

Mosques in the Gaza Strip will be opened next Friday for the last Friday prayer in the holy month of Ramadan Gaza’s COVID-19 Follow-up Committee announced on Sunday.

The committee said that people will be allowed to attend Friday prayers at mosques within certain protective measures introduced by the Health Ministry to maintain public safety.

People who have health problems or chronic diseases elderly people children and people who have just finished their self-isolation after coming to the Gaza Strip from abroad were urged to stay at home.

Gaza Strip residents will also be allowed to attend Eid al-Fitr prayers at mosques while abiding by the same instructions.

The instructions basically include maintaining social distance wearing protective masks and avoiding hand shaking. The worshipers will also have to bring their own prayer rugs.

On 23 March Gaza’s Ministry of Islamic Awqaf and Religious Affairs announced a complete closure on all Gaza Strip mosques in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
