Israeli court sentences sick Palestinian captive to harsh imprisonment term

Tuesday 5-December-2006

Nablus – The Israeli Salem military court affirmed the 22 accumulated life sentence-imprisonment-term against Palestinian citizen Raed Al-Houtari on charges that he was involved in a human bombing operation in Tel Aviv in 2002.

The human bombing operation was carried by Sa’aeed Al-Houtari of the Qassam Brigades armed wing of Hamas in the heart of Tel Aviv at the peak of the Aqsa intifada in the year 2002.

The armed operation claimed the lives of 23 Israeli soldiers and settlers and wounded more than 150 others making it the biggest armed operation in the Israeli depth in terms of perished Israelis.

IOF troops killed more than 4000 Palestinian citizens including hundreds of children and women and wounded tens of thousands others in addition to thousands of arrested Palestinians during the Aqsa intifada that erupted in the year 2000.

Defense counsel of Houtari refuted the prosecution claims affirming that evidences presented by the prosecutor were “illegal and cannot be used to indict his client; but the court turned down the defense argument and ignored a “clear” evidence exonerating the jailed Houtari.

In a statements made to the PIC Houtari’s wife affirmed that her husband needs an urgent operation in one of his eyes; otherwise he faces blindness in that eye.

Family of Houtari appealed to the PA prisoners’ affairs ministry to give attention to their son and to include him in any swap deal with the IOF captured Corporal Gilad Shalit.

In a related matter a number of Palestinian captives in the Maskobeh prison in the occupied city of Jerusalem suffered food poisoning after eating rotten meals given by their Israeli jailors.

Israeli prison authorities (IPA) imposed media blackout on the case as it wasn’t the first time to occur in that jail.

In Hawara detention cell south of Nablus city 70 Palestinian detainees went on partial hunger strike over the deteriorated prison conditions they were experiencing.

They accused the IPA of humiliating them and denying them a number of human rights due to them as prisoners.

Israeli violation of Palestinian human rights weren’t limited to Palestinian captives as IOF troops in the West Bank rounded up 16 Palestinian citizens including a woman in different parts of the West Bank including Nablus Al-Khalil and Bethlehem cities among other cities.

Armed Israeli settlers continued the IOF complemented the IOF troops aggressions against Palestinians as they cut many olive trees south of Al-Khalil city at gunpoint and under full protection of Israeli soldiers.
