Head of Hamas’s political bureau Ismail Haneyya on Saturday met with UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov through video conference to discuss the coronavirus (Covid-19) impact on the Palestinian territories especially besieged Gaza.
Hamas said in a press statement that Mladenov briefed Haneyya on the efforts exerted by the UN in cooperation with donor countries the World Health Organization UNRWA the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government to fight the coronavirus disease.
For his part Haneyya talked about the poor conditions the Palestinians in the blockaded Gaza Strip West Bank and refugee camps in the diaspora are living in and how they are more vulnerable now given the coronavirus outbreak.
Haneyya thanked Qatar Egypt and Turkey for the major role they are playing to help the Palestinian people and support them by all means.
“It’s a critical stage that requires the highest levels of cooperation” he stressed.
