Israeli police forces on Monday morning accompanied dozens of Jewish settlers as they forced their way into al-Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem amid tight restrictions on the Palestinians.
Local sources said that scores of extremist settlers stormed al-Aqsa Mosque toured the site and performed Talmudic rituals under tight police guard.
On Sunday the Administration of Islamic Awqaf and al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs announced that it would shut down some of al-Aqsa Mosque’s buildings as a preventive measure against coronavirus.
Palestinian activists in Jerusalem meanwhile have called on Palestinian worshipers not to abandon al-Aqsa Mosque completely to protect it against settler raids.
Israeli occupation police on Sunday morning closed most of al-Aqsa Mosque’s gates to Muslim worshipers claiming it was a protective measure to limit the spread of coronavirus.
However they did not shut the gates which Israeli settlers use almost on a daily basis to carry out morning break-ins into the holy site.
