Palestinian prisoner subjected to deliberate medical negligence

Friday 5-May-2023

The Palestinian prisoner Muhammad al-Khatib suffered a serious health deterioration due to the Israeli deliberate medical negligence policy the Palestinian Authority Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs revealed Thursday.

Head of the commission Major General Qadri Abu Bakr affirmed that the 40-year-old prisoner has been subjected to a new health setback after the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) refused to provide him with adequate medical treatment.

“This indicates the IPS intention to commit a new medical crime against al-Khatib who is facing slow death behind Israeli bars” he said.

Major General Abu Bakr called on the International Committee of the Red Cross in the occupied territories to check on al-Khatib’s health situation and detention conditions.

Al-Khatib suffers from serious health problems including sharp back pain and movement disorders.

Al-Khatib was detained in 2003 and sentenced to 21 years in prison. He is supposed to be released in about ten months.
