Abu Zuhri: Ben Gvir’s raid into Al-Aqsa Mosque dangerous escalation

Sunday 21-May-2023

Member of the Hamas political bureau abroad Sami Abu Zuhri has said that storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Jewish settlers and the Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir two days after the Israeli flag march constitutes a dangerous escalation against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a press statement on Sunday Abu Zuhri underlined that such incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque constitute part of the Israeli Judaization plans adding that such plans will not succeed in changing the status quo of the Islamic sanctities.

For his part the spokesman of Hamas for Occupied Jerusalem Muhammad Hamadeh said that the Jewish settlers’ raid into the Al-Aqsa Mosque poses serious danger to the Mosque.

Hamadeh held Israel responsible for the repercussions of the settlers’ raids stressing that the Palestinian people will not stand idle by while Israel and its settlers desecrate the holy site.

He called on Palestinians all over the occupied territories to intensify their presence at the Al-Aqsa Mosque to protect it against the Israeli attacks.

Earlier in the morning Israeli far-right security minister Itamar Ben Gvir desecrated the Aqsa Mosque along with dozens of settlers amid tight police protection.

The minister performed Talmudic prayers in the eastern area of the Mosque and made press remarks in which he claimed that Israel is in charge of the Islamic holy site and Jerusalem.

Meanwhile the Israeli occupation government held its weekly cabinet meeting inside a tunnel beneath the Aqsa Mosque’s western wall in which it approved a three-year plan costing 95 million shekels to encourage Jewish settlers to live in occupied east Jerusalem.
