The Israeli army launched dawn air raids on Syria on Sunday targeting locations near Homs City but Syrian air defenses downed most of the missiles according to a state news report.
The SANA news agency quoting an army statement early on Sunday said Israeli missiles flew over parts of Lebanon’s capital Beirut before hitting locations in the vicinity of Homs City.
They resulted in material damage SANA said.
A spokesperson for the Israeli army claimed its fighter jets had launched an attack on a Syrian air defense battery from which an anti-aircraft missile was launched towards Israel adding that the warplanes also attacked other targets in the area.
Earlier on Saturday the Israeli army said that one anti-aircraft missile launched from Syrian territory towards Israel had exploded in mid-air.
Israel has carried out dozens of strikes on alleged military targets inside government-controlled parts of Syria in recent years but rarely acknowledges its attacks.
