Ministry of Detainees slams Israel’s demolition of prisoners’ homes

Thursday 8-June-2023

The Ministry of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees in Gaza has strongly denounced the Israeli occupation state for demolishing at dawn Thursday a house belonging to the family of Palestinian prisoner Islam al-Farroukh in Ramallah.

In a statement the ministry called the occupation state’s persistence in demolishing homes of prisoners a “criminal policy” stressing that such a policy would never succeed in breaking the prisoners’ will and undermining their steadfastness.

The ministry called on the international community and its human rights organizations to urgently intervene to stop the Israeli crime of demolishing Palestinian homes.

At dawn Thursday the Israeli occupation forces stormed a neighborhood in Ramallah City and detonated an apartment belonging to the family of prisoner Islam al-Farroukh who was detained last year in connection with the Jerusalem blasts that killed a Jewish settler and wounded others.

Demolitions of Palestinian homes in the West Bank and east Jerusalem have risen sharply under Israel’s hardline new government threatening to inflame tensions already heightened by different violations committed by Israeli forces and extremist settlers.

In a related context the Palestinian Authority (PA) president’s advisor on Jerusalem affairs Ahmed al-Ruwaidi has warned that about 22000 Palestinian homes in Occupied Jerusalem are threatened with demolition by the Israeli occupation authority as part of its plan to Judaize the city.

In radio remarks on Wednesday Ruwaidi affirmed that the Israeli occupation state systematically demolishes from 30 to 40 Palestinian homes and structures in Jerusalem every month.

The PA official added that the Israeli demolition policy in Jerusalem is aimed at forcing the Palestinian natives to leave their holy city in order to reduce their numbers from about 42 percent at present to less than 20 percent and change the city’s demographic composition.
