Palestinian artist draws vivid picture of life under occupation

Palestinian artist Rasha Al-Qassem pays homage through her artwork to the Palestinian people living under occupation.

For Rasha Al-Qassem 29 who lives in the Burj Al-Barajneh refugee camp in Beirut art is about giving a voice to the suffering of Palestinians.

Speaking to the PIC reporter Al-Qassem said: “I live outside of Palestine. When events broke out there I felt that there were many energies inside me that I wanted to do and I could only draw so I painted about Palestine and its people.”

“Since we do not live in our land we are trying to exert all our energy to convey the voice of our people to the whole world.”

The young Palestinian woman who studied accounting in Lebanon draws about Palestine the right of return the Aqsa Mosque and Israeli attacks.

Rasha Al-Qassem was forced to study accounting due to its low costs. But she later developed her artistic talent.

Art is inherited in my family as my father and uncles were painters she told the PIC reporter.

Al-Qassem expressed her hope to continue her art studies in her home country Palestine.
