The Palestinian municipality of al-Khalil City said that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) wants to take over its building in the Old City to give it to Jewish settlers.
Deputy mayor of al-Khalil Asma al-Sharbati told Hettin digital channel that the IOA had recently put up a notice on the building of al-Khalil municipality ordering its evacuation within 45 days.
Sharbati said that the municipality filed objections to the Israeli evacuation order adding that municipal employees tried to enter the building several times but the Israeli occupation forces assaulted them each time they tried to go in.
She pointed out that the IOA claimed that Jews had lived in that building in the past to justify its takeover affirming that al-Khalil municipality started to prepare a legal file to protect its building and other Palestinian-owned properties in the Old City.
