Muhammad al-Ja&rsquobari a Palestinian resident of the &ldquoNamra&rdquo neighborhood in al-Khalil in the south of the occupied West Bank wakes up every morning to look for a truck to transport water to his house.
Al-Ja’bari said that large numbers of Palestinians suffer from the same water shortage problem and are hardly obtaining a water truck for their domestic use.
Speaking to Quds Press Al-Ja’bari pointed out that Palestinians are facing the same problem each summer however the problem has deepened this summer after the Israeli water company decided to reduce al-Khalil governorate’s share of water.
He further said that the nearby illegal settlement of Kiryat Arba receives ten times as much water as the entire city of al-Khalil. He added that the settlers enjoy unlimited amounts of water to fill their swimming pools and irrigate their gardens.
Deputy Mayor of al-Khalil Municipality Asmaa Al-Sharabati said that the Israeli policy of controlling the basic and main resources in Palestine deepens the water shortage problem.
Al-Khalil receives about 22 cups of water per day and this is never enough she added.
The city’s neighborhoods received water supplies every 18 days then every 22 days. However it is now receiving water every 28 days she underlined.
Al-Sharabati pointed out that the United Nations has recommended that every person needs about 100 liters of water every day for their daily needs and 30 liters in case of emergency. However each resident of al-Khalil receives much less than the emergency rate she added.
The Deputy Mayor of al-Khalil Municipality said that the Israeli policy of controlling the basic and main resources in Palestine deepens the water shortage problem.
Al-Sharabati called on the Palestinian Authority and donor countries to put more pressure on Israel to increase the amount of water allocated for the city.
