IOA deports Palestinian sick detainee to Jordan

Wednesday 25-November-2009

JENIN (PIC)– Palestinian local sources reported Wednesday that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) transferred Palestinian prisoner Akram Anteer who suffers from a serious disease from Negev prison to Jordan for medical treatment and refused to let him return home.

The prisoner’s family said that after procrastination for several months the IOA agreed to send their son to Jordan in order to travel to Spain to receive medical treatment.

The family added that their son was administratively detained for two years in Israeli jails and suffers from a serious disease in his back.

His mother affirmed that the IOA refused a request for his release and after several attempts it approved to deport him outside Palestine.

She added that in the beginning she rejected the Israeli decision but because of the deterioration of her son’s health she had no other choice but to accept this decision especially since doctors confirmed that his presence in prison would put his life at risk.

The mother appealed to human rights organizations to adopt the issue of her son and pressure Israel to allow him to return to his family after he completes his medical treatment in Spain.

In another context the Palestinian women’s information and media center stated Tuesday that Israel killed about 1500 Palestinians during its last war on the Gaza Strip most of them were children and women and destroyed 22000 homes which led to the displacement of 95000 civilians.

The center said that the Israeli blockade imposed on Gaza for 45 months worsened the lives of Gaza women.

It added that the frequent power outages and fuel shortages made the women in Gaza resort to primitive means to do household chores which increased their suffering and their health problems.

A new report issued by the UN stated that eight families out of 10 in Gaza live below the poverty line.
The report added that the high percentage of poverty in Gaza deprived many women from education and appropriate health care noting that 80 percent of Gaza population depends on humanitarian assistance.
