Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip have resulted in the death of a Palestinian child every seven minutes a bloody toll that is unprecedented in modern history and far exceeds the situation in the Ukraine war the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor said in a new statement released on Monday.
Over the course of 24 days of Israeli airstrikes and artillery shelling in the Gaza Strip 3457 children were confirmed killed by the Geneva-based Euro-Med Monitor with over a thousand more going missing beneath the debris.
Based on data from the United Nations this figure is more than ten times the number of children killed in Russia’s war on Ukraine in the first year from the end of February 2022 to the end of February 2023.
The Euro-Med Monitor would like to draw the attention of the international community which has been acting at all levels to protect children in Ukraine since the start of the war which is a duty to the genocide that Gaza civilians particularly children are subjected to and urge the international community to cease its egregious double standard policy.
In the midst of a terrifying conflict Euro-Med also emphasized that children in Gaza are often the targets of random attacks intended to kill with premeditation. Many of these children are also homeless without access to food or clean water or they were forced to flee under fire to the southern part of the Gaza Strip which exacerbates the traumas they suffer.
The Monitor said “Children under the age of eighteen who make up 47% of the 2.2 million people living in the Gaza Strip have long had mental health issues. Four out of every five children used to report that they experienced depression sadness or fear prior to the current conflict a sharp decline from earlier studies.”
