China: Palestinians should decide on their own future

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that “Any arrangement involving the future and destiny of Palestine must obtain the consent of the Palestinian people and must also accommodate the legitimate concerns of regional countries.” 

The remarks of the Chinese Foreign Minister came during his meeting on Monday with a group of foreign ministers from key member nations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Wang Yi said “As the rotating chair of the Security Council China Will continue to strengthen coordination with Arab and Islamic countries build consensus and promote the Security Council to take further meaningful actions on the situation in Gaza.”

The Chinese top diplomat said that China calls for “convening a broader and more effective international peace conference as soon as possible and for formulating a timetable and a roadmap for this end” stressing that Beijing “will continue to exert effective efforts to promote peace between Palestine and Israel as well as peace and stability in the Middle East.”

Wang Yi pointed out that “China stands firmly on the side of integrity and justice regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict as it works to de-escalate the situation protect civilians boost humanitarian aid prevent humanitarian catastrophes and to return back to the two-state solution and early settlement of the Palestinian cause.”

He stressed the need for “a full implementation of the relevant resolutions issued by the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly as well as for enforcing an immediate cease fire and putting an end to the conflict.” 

He also called for “serious adherence to international law especially the international humanitarian law.”
