Bardawil accuses a trend within Fatah of working to annul elections results

Saturday 2-December-2006

Gaza – Dr. Salah al-Bardawil spokesman of the Hamas parliamentary block accused a trend within the Fatah movement working for the cancellation of the results of the general elections and sidelining Hamas under the pretext of lifting the siege.

In press statements on Thursday Bardawil criticized warnings that President Mahmoud Abbas should resort to alternatives in the event of failure to form a national unity government.

He considered such statements as “preludes to a mutiny and expressed by people who do not want to see a national unity government or any strong government which takes strong stands vis-à-vis the rights of the Palestinian people.”

Some of the Abbass’ advisors are the people who are spreading rumors that Abbas will use his “constitutional powers” to dissolve the parliament and form an emergency government according to Bardawil.

He said that such rumors are dangerous and irresponsible and aim to create tensions and destroy all the achievements made so far. He added that there may be local and international pressure on Abbas to dissolve the parliament but that he does not think that Abbas will succumb to such pressures.

Furthermore Bardawil suggested that Abbas should adopt the program as outlined by the national harmony document and abandon his own political program which has proved its futility over many years.
