Proving it was firm on its political stand of not normalizing with the Hebrew state Hamas Movement has dismissed mayor of the Na’leen town west of Ramallah city for meeting with Israeli settlers without permission from the Movement.
Well-informed sources in the Movement who spoke on condition of anonymity affirmed that mayor of the town Mohammed Soror and his assistant Thaer Omaira rendered their resignation a week ago. Both officials were cadres of Hamas.
Hamas explained that the visit made by the mayor and four members of the municipal council (three of them weren’t from Hamas) was decided arbitrarily and without consulting the Movement. Hamas’ policy bans its members from meeting with Israeli officials.
The Movement furthermore added that the mayor was deceived by members of the municipal council who have different political affiliations and participated in the “erred” visit yet the Movement noted those officials exploited the visit to defame Hamas’ image.
According to a statement issued by Hamas and a copy of which was obtained by the PIC media apparatuses affiliated with Fatah faction in the PA-run lands have wittingly disregarded news that some members of the municipal delegation were from Fatah faction and focused instead on defaming the Hamas-affiliated mayor.
The mayor and his assistant acknowledged their mistake and willingly left their post and put themselves under the disposal of their Movement.
Hamas won the PA legislative elections last January and formed the biggest bloc in the PLC as Palestinian people supported its change and reform political platform.
The Movement asserted that it won’t hesitate to account any “erred” member regardless of his position.
“We are holding members in our Movement accountable over any erred step they may take; yet others are awarding their leaders who lick hands of the Zionists and coordinate with them” the statement of Hamas added.
