MP Khuraisha accuses local Palestinian parties of attempting to derail PLC funct

Saturday 25-November-2006

Ramallah– Second deputy-speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council (PLC) Dr. Hassan Khuraisha has accused certain Palestinian local parties driven by their personal agenda of attempting to derail functions of the Council.

“We had announced earlier that an unknown group telephoned PLC employees who rejected calls not to report to work and warned them that they and their children will be burned alive if they report to office” the Palestinian MP asserted.

He charged that such threats aimed at paralyzing the constitutional process in the Palestinian community and derailing the mission of the Palestinian legislature.

According to Palestinian security sources an “unknown” armed group peppered the car of the head of the technical department in the PLC while inside it in a clear warning message. The man wasn’t harmed but the car was damaged.

Unknown armed men claiming to be from the Aqsa Martyrs Brigades armed wing of Fatah have publicly threatened PLC employees reporting to job of burning and killing them and their children if they didn’t stop going to job.

Such vandal acts at hands of “paid” armed groups come two days after an attempt by another “unknown” armed group to kill Hamas political leader in Qalqilia city in northern West Bank Sheikh Riyadh Walweel 57.

Hamas legislator Dr. Salah Al-Bardaweel unequivocally charged a group of influential leaders in Fatah faction led by PA chief Mahmoud Abbas of striving to send the Palestinian arena into the cycle of security mess in service of their personal interests and of attempting to spoil efforts and plans for the formation of a PA unity government.

The Hamas Movement for its part warned that the patience and self-control it was displaying over those erred practices shouldn’t be interpreted by others as “weakness” on the part of the Movement adding that it was very much concerned with preserving Palestinian unity and the sacred Palestinian blood.

The Movement threw the ball in the court of the PA security apparatuses in the West Bank stressing that they must unveil and arrest assailants of Walweel as soon as possible.

The attempt on Walweel’s life enraged the Palestinian masses in the city and religious sectors in the West Bank including the Palestine scholars league (PSL) and the Islamic bloc of public teachers which Walweel is a member of.
