Sunday 11-October-2009

RAMALLAH (PIC)– Security militias loyal to Mahmoud Abbas whose term in office as PA chief expired last January continued their arrest campaign in lines of Palestinian citizens for their political affiliation in the West Bank and detained this time the brother of Al-Jazeera TV channel’s director.

Hamas’s official website in the West Bank Omama reported on Sunday that those militias kidnapped Mahdi Khanfar the elder brother of Waddah Khanfar from Rama village Jenin district for the second time.

He was held in Abbas’s jails for two months in the first time it said.

The site noted that those militias were still detaining Ayham Qanadilo from Nablus for more than a year. He was detained immediately after his release from Israeli occupation jails.

The illegitimate government of Salam Fayyad in Ramallah for its part sacked two teachers in Tulkarem only days after their appointment.

The Palestinian center in defense of prisoners said that 4000 individuals had taken part in the solidarity campaign which it announced on Saturday with the Palestinian human rights activist Fuad Al-Khafsh who is held in PA jails.

The messages reaching the center asked the Ramallah authority to release Khafsh immediately the center said adding that most of the senders said that the detention of Khafsh had harmed the issue of prisoners since he was heading the Ahrar center catering for the affairs of Palestinian prisoners and human rights.
