Palestinian media assembly slams Israel for kidnapping another journalist

Tuesday 1-September-2009

NABLUS (PIC)– The Palestinian media assembly on Monday strongly denounced Israel for kidnapping journalist Sirri Sammour at dawn Monday after storming his home in Jenin only two days after the abduction of two journalists in Al-Ein refugee camp and Nablus.

The assembly warned of the danger of continuing to kidnap Palestinian journalists pointing out that there are already six other  journalists in Israeli jails.

The assembly appealed to reporters without borders the international federation of journalists and the Arab unions to condemn these Israeli violations and demand the immediate release of all journalists from its jails without conditions.

In another related context Palestinian eyewitnesses told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that a large number of Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed at dawn Tuesday the village of Bil’in west of Ramallah and kidnapped a 20-year-old young man after breaking and ransacking a number of homes in the village.

It was also reported that the IOF troops invaded Al-Khalil city and encircled the house of a senior Hamas leader called Azzam Hassouna and took him to an unknown destination.

Hassouna’s family confirmed that the troops stole 4000 shekels after sabotaging the contents of the house.

For its part the Hebrew radio claimed that the IOF troops kidnapped on Tuesday nine Palestinian citizens from different West Bank areas and took them to interrogation centers.

In Ramallah five Palestinian young men were wounded on Monday evening when IOF troops opened fire at them near the settlement of Beit Eil.

Medical sources in the Palestinian Red Cross said that the IOF troops prevented medical crews from reaching the scene to transport the wounded saying that one of the young men was critically injured.

Local sources in Nablus city reported Monday that Israeli settlers established a new road linking their settlement Havat Gilad west of the city with a main road used by Palestinian citizens.

The sources expressed fears that the settlers might use the road to wage attacks against Palestinian passersby.

In another context the Hebrew radio claimed that two Palestinian homemade rockets fell inside the 1984 occupied lands near Beit Hanoun crossing in northern Gaza Strip adding that the rockets did not cause any casualties.

The radio also alleged in another context that the Israeli police found on Monday an explosive device near a bus stop in the 1948 occupied lands.
